The run to Green Turtle provided the roughest seas of the cruise since our crossing. As the wind had been up from the northeast the last few day, the Whale Cay Channel was up. We saw this on Marv’s weather report, but decided to go any way. Luckily while large the waves weren’t too close together and didn’t last too long.
Green Turtle’s setting provided another beautiful vista and once the winds died down we delighted in looking under the docks at the fish and other sea life.
Our first outing was to the Green Turtle Club on the other shore of White Sound to visit the club burgee left by our advance guard. Some got there by foot, some by golf cart, others by dinghy. The consensus was dinghy was the desired means of travel as the road between the two marinas was pretty rough.
Day two the plan was to visit the settlement of New Plymouth in Black Sound. Six of us set out in our dighy, but the chop at the mouth of the sound meant we all would have been wet, so around we turned around and made a second trip to Green Turtle Club for the grocery store. Jon and Elise braved the waters in a less loaded dinghy later that afternoon.
Some of us also braved the steep hill behind the Marina for a visit to the Tranquil Turtle beach bar. The draw was mostly there Tranquil Turtle rum drink, at $5 it was the least expensive one of the trip, and honestly, after awhile they all start to taste pretty much the same.
One of our preoccupations at this stop was the weather watching. After pushing the comfort zone crossing over, we owed the crew a decent crossing back. It looked like once the winds died, the waves were going to quiet too for a four day window.
